Good Men
Curt Weldon's a good man. People should listen to him ---both when he's defending John Murtha and when he's talking about Able Danger.

I think he did himself a big favor tonight on the floor of the House of Representatives.

As for Murtha, I respect the man, but I disrespect the clowns who are kissing his ass. Like Howard Fineman. Fineman is a bag of wet stools. Sure, go on and on about how important it is that Murtha is drawing a crowd like this, but don't lie to the public about the man's record. Murtha's been against this war for more than a year now; this sudden change of heart that Big Media is trying to sell us is nothing of the kind. Fineman knows this, but he's too busy propagandizing to make mention of that.

But this all goes back to the President of the United States. So long as he refuses to seize every opportunity he can to explain to us what our troops are doing and accomplishing in Iraq, George W. Bush is failing them and the people who care about their mission.

If John Murtha is forcing the President to make some sense, then a big "Semper Fi!" to him.

Glad to see you've had a change of heart about the war. I knew you, as someone whose into reality and other things factual, eventually would. Good for you.

A big "Semper Fi" to him? Now you're pretending to be a Marine?

The GOP looked like Curly, Mo, and Larry last night. As they were pointing fingers and outrageously politicizing discourse about war yet again, the Pentagon was placing in Rumsfeld's hands a plan to begin withdrawal of troops in December! Explain to me how immediate withdrawal (which wasn't Murtha's resolution, btw) is "cut and run" but waiting three weeks is not "cut and run." Looks like Rummy didn't report to the Congress that this was coming down. Very reassuring to the American people that these idiots have everything under control. Yeah, all we need to do is "stay the course" (whatever "the course" is). Don't say anything about incompetence. That just sentds the wrong signal to the enemy.

OK, you can go back to pretending you are a Marine now.

I support the war. And I've been saying that President Bush has been fucking up the necessary advocacy of the war for a very long time now.

Oh, btw, that plan to begin withdrawal after the December elections? That was John Kerry's plan.

You GOPers are so busy politicizing the debate, you don't even notice when your side agrees with someone on the other side. Or is Kerry's plan still "cut and run" while
Rumsfeld's plan is "stay the course"?

I'm not pretending to be a Marine, moron. I was acknowledging Murtha's own identity as a Marine. If that spectacle last night moves the White House to step up the bombing campaign in and OVER the Syrian border, then I am all for it. But we aren't going to leave Iraq until it's done on our own terms.

Surely you must realize that John Kerry has no ideas, but campaign promises. They're the worthless thoughts of a phony man.

Again, like the rest of the hyenas on your side of the aisle, you don't know whether you are chewing on your own ass or dead meat. Kerry advanced this idea last month. If it's a worthless thought, then what in the fuck is the Pentagon doing writing it up and submitting it to Rumsfeld as their plan for withdrawal? They don't know what they are doing, and you damned sure don't know what they are doing. All you know for sure is who you hate and who you are supposed to hate.

If you've got such a hard-on for war, go enlist.

"But we aren't going to leave Iraq until it's done on our own terms."

I hope so. I really do. But it's not going to be accomplished by "staying the course." Read this and you will understand why "staying the course" is the last thing we need to do, the first being to fire Rumsfeld's incompetent ass:

"Why Iraq Has No Army" by James Fallows
http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/prem/200512/iraq-army

Bush & Co. cut and ran on Iraq even as they went in.

I actually listened to that interview with Kerry you linked to. He has it in mind that we should garrison our troops in Iraq and keep them out of the way of any terrorists. That sounds like a good idea; I certainly hate to hear that our people are getting murdered along with innocent civilians. But our interactions with the public and the government/military structure there is giving us a lot of intell that we aren't even hearing about back home. We can't lose that.

Kerry wants us out of the way. Murtha wants us to hang out in Kuwait ("over the horizon"). I am all in favor of drawing down; everybody is. And, no, I don't know what "stay the course" means. That would be Bush's and Rumsfeld's job to tell us. But if they can't break through to the public on account of a hostile media, then the explanations are never going to come.

I'm for the immediate pullout of Rumsfeld. But the interesting question is to what extent either of these draw-down proposals (Murtha's and Kerry's) differs from Gen. Casey's proposal.
