In one of the most notorious remarks in the relatively young life of the blogosphere, Leftist blogger Markos Zuniga passed judgement on the lives of four American contractors murdered in Fallujah last year, saying on 1 April 2004:
Let the people see what war is like. This isn't an Xbox game. There are real repercussions to Bush's folly. It was a huge mistake, of course, and helped to seal the public's opinion of the liberal Democrats as backstabbers in a time of war and elections.
That said, I feel nothing over the death of mercenaries. They aren't in Iraq because of orders, or because they are there trying to help the people make Iraq a better place. They are there to wage war for profit. Screw them.
Zuniga's remarks have also proved to be very useful for people like me who wish to remind their correspondents of what's at stake. Thus, when I raised Zuniga's remarks again this afternoon at a well-known online Leftist klavern, this is the response I got from some wanker calling himself Woody Guthrie's Guitar:
i have absolutely no sympathy for dead mercenaries, of any nationality, race, creed, or gender.Yep. This is what became of the hippies: they went psychopathic.
they have sold their humanity. thus they deserve no tears, no tributes, no compassion.
a dead merc is just one fewer inhumane, murderous, soulless, mutherfocker that we have to worry about...
