An Insomniac Concern
We might expect that the outcome of this election depends upon the resolution of specific issues, but that is an intellectual expectation. And it is false. Instead, as it too often does, it will come down to impressions and emotions. And I do not believe that there is enough time to effectively counter a year's worth of Leftist lies about the War for Iraq or a whole term's worth of their lies about the circumstances of George W. Bush's election. That is a function of Big Media's pervasive influence.

I will continue to make the argument for Bush's re-election and believe in its rightness for our country's sake, but I have no confidence that the mere exposure of the lies of the anti-war and Democratic parties is going to accomplish anything.

Can the GOP and the organs of the Bush campaign turn this around, after having done such a poor job of justifying the war when perceptions turned against it and failing to counter the worst of the demagoguery and hypocrisy of our domestic enemies? I am not hopeful.

But I doubt one other thing also, which is that the electorate doesn't respond well to negative campaigning. Big Media and pollsters may find all the evidence they wish to that people are turned off by this approach, but I do not believe it.

Burn every bridge, Mr. President. If you go down, take as many with you as you can. The War for Iraq is right, even if you have failed to make the case that you should have. History will prove you right. But these useful idiots on the Left should be brought down and humiliated. They have lied and they have turned their coats. They have bought into the worst sort of propaganda and they have sickened themselves on everything from Abu Ghraib to the Patriot Act and from the agitprop of traitors to the self-serving sedition of embittered fools.

If John Kerry wins, it will be a victory for terrorists and the decadent old shells of Europe. It will be a victory for Kofi Annan and Jacques Chiraq. Hatemongers and Moore-ons. Dhimmicide and American self-loathing.

That is enough pessimism for now.

It amazes me that now that Kerry wants to drop the animosity now after he jumped on the Dean bandwagon of trashng President Bush. When President bush defends himself its attack ads and when Kerry lies, spins, and distorts the truth it is just politics. Maybe President Bush has made a few mistakes but I think he did the best job he could with the information available to him. As for Kerry he has the wonderful advantage of being a "Monday Morning " quaterback and since he has come down on both sides of an issue he can spin it any way he wants. I think President Bush now needs to open the War chest and start a "Shock and Awe " campaign against Kerry. Tell it like its and tell it loudly spend as much money as it takes and when the convention comes take the public money and use it for the hard blitzkreig strike against the liberal heartland California and New York. Keep hitting the battle ground states and shore up his base in the conservative south and midwest. Make Kerry defend on his turf make him spend money were he doesn't want to. Remember the best defense is good offense. I want to se Bush take Kerry to task on his waffleitis. Why vote to approve something if you're going to not vote to fund it. Wouldn't it be better to vote against as a matter of principal and then if it is passed over your nay vote, vote to fund it especially when it involves the needs of the very troops you claim to support. It just doesn't pass the common sense test for me. Well lets hope Bush's campaign gets in gear now. Kerry has had his moment in the sun now its time to get serious.

Roger ALL of that. It's plain old chickenshit to directly address the President and call for mutual respect and civility after spending 40+ minutes accusing the man of being a liar, a puppet, an abuser of the Constitution, etc.

Some of the pundits rationalize why their man is not forceful enough in responding to the attacks, and call it the rope-a-dope strategy. At this point, we can only hope that Bush and his team have been keeping their powder dry for a PURPOSE. But, damn! They've gotta come with their best stuff NOW!

Oh, I'm sure soon, a fresh dose of the wildest lies and assertions will come spewing up from Bush/Cheney's election campaign soon and then you, Toby, can jump on that Republican distortion bandwagon and repeat them ad nauseum to whoever will listen. The only question is, have the American people had enough of these lies? Have you noticed, as doubtless millions of other Americans noticed, that any criticism of Bush is a suspect-a priori? Have you noticed that any unfavorable story is automatically the product of "Bush-hating liberal media"? Have you noticed that the mere questioning of authority leads the questioner to be labeled and branded un-American? Doesn't it strike you odd that by an administration's own account they are beyond reproach--ALWAYS?
That alone should tell you something is wrong.
But people like you are so afraid, you're willing to buy the lies. Anything to reassure your place in the world. I'm just glad we have a real choice now. A return to the America we've been missing for years. The real America. A nation of laws not men, where freedom, justice and equality of opportunity are valued. We'll prove again that Americans are a courageous, forward-looking people. We won't tolerate terrorism at the hands anyone--be they Muslim radicals or politicians who can advance their agendas by manipulating the American people with fear.
Remember FDR's Four Freedoms:
Freedom of Expression
Freedom of Religion
Freedom from Want
Freedom from Fear
....EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD
I dare you to see Fahrenheit 9/11. The presentation is Michael Moore's opinion but the film clips are inarguable. Tell you what: watch it with earplugs in. Just for the images. I dare you to see it and then look yourself in the mirror and tell yourself you're doing the right thing by supporting Bush. The major problem with the Southern heart at the soul of the Republicans is that in the South there is still a romanticism for The Lost Cause. It's been that way since the end of the Civil War. You can still hear echoes of it written into country music today. It's there. And it dies hard. But you really shouldn't wreck the rest of the country to satisfy your own romanticized notions of your place in history.
PS Bush's convention speech is going to look like something aimed at kindergartners.
