I think Canada, England and (God help us) France have offered us aid. (When the French are coming to your rescue, you know the situation is very, very bad indeed.)

Governor Blanco and Mayor Nagin have been about as useful as tits on a bull. My question is: where's the Army? If I were Bush, I'd federalize the Louisiana National Guard, declare martial law in New Orleans and send them into the Big Easy to shoot the looters.

As they used to say on TV "it couldn't hurt!"

Actually, I had to chuckle at that. Although it contains the germ of an idea.

France, certainly, isn't doing anything with its army. If the French want to help, they can send their army over to aid in rescue operations, engineering, handing out food, etc. (I would NOT use the French army for any kind of peacekeeping - a Frenchman with a gun is about as useless as giving a man with no arms a hand grenade.)

After all, they didn't want to help in Iraq, so they can
help here, if they have les balles for it.
