If the reports of the IED loaded with sarin gas are true, it's big news. And this was even apparent from the Big Media coverage today. But the literalists, who immediately dismiss any evidence of the Saddamites' old handiwork making a reappearance, have already put this incident out of their minds. It's not enough. It's not the stockpiles we were assured of finding.
But are these anti-war rationalizers so stupid as to suppose that one such explosive is not an indicator of many others? If the insurgents or terrorists (the distinction is practically meaningless) could come up with one, then can surely come up with a hundred. Or a thousand.
What it will come down to is a whole patrol of American soldiers getting hit by one of these explosives and, then, just as they are checking to see whether they and their buddies are alright, the horrible reality of their plight beginning to seize them on the spot. Will that be quantity enough for the traitors who say they "support the troops," but piss on their mission and their Commander-in-Chief with every other breath?
We have every reason to believe that the great majority of Iraqis want peace and freedom. We also know that they do not want us there for a moment longer than we have to be. But their security, as evidenced by the assassination of the president of their Governing Council this morning, cannot be reasonably established until these dead-enders and terrorists ---terrorists, you fucking idiots--- are dealt with.
Let those who wish to live in a new Iraq find their way to condemning the terrorists and insurgents, and acting upon their belief in a better future by ratting out these worthless fuckers. They know who they are and where they live. Come out of the shadows, my friends. We'll be happy to see our men and women home as soon as possible. You can make it happen. Just speak up.
