Getting Serious
The Kerry campaign is getting shrill and desperate. They don't want other veterans who oppose Senator Flipper to have their say. They have put pressure on book stores to pull John O'Neill's book Unfit for Command because they think it is a hoax. They have also tried to intimidate the book's publisher with intimations of a lawsuit. Say, who needs the Patriot Act to crush dissent when you can just lawyer up?

And now they've filed a complaint with the Federal Elections Commission to get the Swift Boat Veterans for the Truth's ads pulled. Maybe it wasn't enough for the DNC to write letters to television stations, urging them not to air the ads. Don't doubt for a moment that the hint of libel was in the air.

The Kerrion are responding to the charges of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth like a bunch of book-burners. But what else do you expect from hypocrites? The Democratic Party are absolutely abusing the 527 loophole in McCain-Feingold. They've got many tens of millions of dollars pumped into shit-shovelers like MoveOn.org and Media Fund ---all with the intent of bashing the President and giving Kerry a free pass.

Judging from Kerry's blustering bullshit from yesterday, it looks like total meltdown is only a few more days away. Enjoy.

There, you will find copies of commendations and reports by a Swift Boat Veteran for a Newly Created Truth, George Elliott, that is prominently featured in the Swift Boat Shills for the RNC's commercial. In particular you will find references by Elliott to Kerry as "highly courageous in the face of enemy fire" and recounts how Kerry dodged sniper fire to save one of his colleagues. Elliott also described our future president as "exhibit[ing]all of the traits desired of an officer in a combat environment." In short, Elliott's one previously written prose belies his current shameful accusations.

The full story at the Chicago Tribune requires registration, but you'll get the idea from the link. An officer who served in another swift boat alongside Kerry has finally decided to relive the horrors of Vietnam to expose the Swift Boat Veterans for the Smirking Monkey's lies.

In sum, you're really making a mistake in carrying the flag for these not-so-swift veterans, my friend. It is clear that Kerry served our country honorably in Vietnam regardless of whether you agree with his policies or actions following his return. You, and our appointed president, should denounce the charlatans' actions rather than repeat, defend, or even countenance them.

I doubt you're a dickhead, Johnny. That was directed at a particular group of bloggers who have suddenly become my dissertation committee.

Yes, the Elliott thing is confusing. I can't account for it except to say that after-action reports are the basis for medal recommendations. I work at a place where I am periodically thanked for my service by the boss, although we have never met and there is almost no chance that he would know whether I deserve his thanks. There may be something like that at work in this case. But I don't know.
